JSC Takes Pragmatic Approach to Period of Change 15 April 2015

The JSC has discussed the impact of various factors on the content and structure of RDA.

Jane-athon Success 15 April 2015

The world's first full Jane-athon took place January 30, 2015 in Chicago during ALA Midwinter. This hackathon for creating RDA linked data about the works of Jane Austen and related resources was attended by over 60 delegates from 55 institutions. Individually, or in clusters led by experienced, knowledgeable volunteers, the delegates used RIMMF (RDA in Many Metadata Formats) to create RDA/FRBR entity records from imported MARC 21 records or as born-RDA, and link them using RDA designators. RIMMF is an editor for data that conforms to RDA Toolkit and the RDA Registry.

2014 JSC Meeting 30 December 2014

The Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA will meet November 3-7, 2014 in Washington, D.C.

Sessions will be held from 8:30-17:30 at the American Library Association's Washington office. Observers are welcome at open sessions and are encouraged to attend. The committee meets in closed executive sessions at the beginning and end of the week.

The meeting agenda will be announced by mid-October. Information about registering as an observer will be included in that announcement.

RDA Strategy Consultation 2014 30 December 2014

Attention is drawn to the consultation into the future governance of RDA recently announced by the Committee of Principals.

The Committee is soliciting responses from all stakeholders. Read the discussion document or see the presentation given by Simon Edwards, Chair of the Committee of Principals, to the IFLA Satellite Meeting, RDA: Resource Description and Access - Status and perspectives 2014. Frankfurt, 13th August.

RDA Around the World 30 December 2014

The latest issue of Cataloging & Classification Quarterly is a special issue titled "RDA around the world". The thirteen articles cover aspects of RDA implementation from initial consideration to full translation, with perspectives from Canada, China, German-speaking countries, Iran, Israel, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, Turkey, and French and Spanish translation activity. The Chair of the JSC is guest editor, and author of the introduction.

November 2014 JSC Meeting Agenda 30 December 2014

The agenda for the November 2014 meeting of the Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA (JSC) is now available. The JSC will meet November 3-7, 2014 in Washington, D.C., USA, at the American Library Association Washington Office building (1615 New Hampshire Avenue NW).

Observers may attend the public sessions of the meeting. Please contact both the JSC Chair, Gordon Dunsire and the JSC Secretary, Judy Kuhagen, if you want to attend any of the sessions.

Outcomes of the 2014 JSC Meeting 30 December 2014

The Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA (JSC) met at the American Library Association Washington Office, in Washington, D.C., USA, from November 3-7, 2014. James Hennelly, Managing Editor of RDA Toolkit, and Simon Edwards, chair of the Committee of Principals of RDA, attended the meeting as did Kate James, the RDA Examples Editor. Ten observers also attended public sessions of the meeting.
