Observers welcome at 2015 JSC meeting | 18 August 2015 |
The Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA (JSC) will meet Nov. 2-6, 2015, in Edinburgh, Scotland, at the National Library of Scotland. Observers are welcome at open sessions and are encouraged to attend. Sessions will be held from 9:00-17:00 in the Boardroom of the National Library of Scotland on George IV Bridge. The committee meets in closed executive sessions on Monday, Nov. 2, and at the end of Friday, Nov. 6. The complete meeting agenda will be announced by mid-October. |
RDA/ONIX Guidelines and Linked Data | 4 August 2015 |
The RDA/ONIX Framework for Resource Categorization (5JSC/Chair/10) is the basis for terms in the RDA carrier, content, and media type vocabularies. Each term is related to a set of Framework attributes covering the basic carrier and content categories. The Framework also provides a mechanism for extending and refining the categories. |
Preparing a Proposal or Discussion Paper for Development of RDA | 30 June 2015 |
Guidelines for preparing a proposal or discussion paper about changes to RDA have been posted on the JSC website "Submitting Proposals to Revise RDA" page. The guidelines in 6JSC/Policy/5 are accompanied by a sample proposal. Posted with the guidelines are links to the Editor's guide and its appendices as well as to Policy/1/rev (other documents to be consulted when preparing a proposal or discussion paper). |
RDA Elements Table and Registry Updated | 23 June 2015 |
The RDA element analysis table and the RDA Registry have been updated in line with the April 2015 release of RDA Toolkit. The JSC has reviewed the RDA element analysis table and made several changes to its scope and layout. Information that is more appropriate in an Application Profile has been removed, along with place-holder entries that are no longer required. |
Committee of Principals Affirms Commitment to the Internationalisation of RDA | 5 June 2015 |
The Committee of Principals for RDA has issued the following statement dated 29 May 2015: RDA is a package of data elements, guidelines, and instructions for creating library and cultural heritage resource metadata that are well-formed according to international models for user-focussed linked data applications. RDA has always been a continually evolving standard that aims to reflect the requirements of the cataloguing, metadata and description community. |
JSC November 2015 Meeting | 5 June 2015 |
The Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA (JSC) will meet Nov. 2-6, 2015, in Edinburgh, Scotland, at the National Library of Scotland. The committee will discuss the transition to a new governance model that is part of the commitment to ongoing internationalisation of RDA and to collaboration with other cultural heritage description communities. |

Jane-athon Success | 15 April 2015 |
The world's first full Jane-athon took place January 30, 2015 in Chicago during ALA Midwinter. This hackathon for creating RDA linked data about the works of Jane Austen and related resources was attended by over 60 delegates from 55 institutions. Individually, or in clusters led by experienced, knowledgeable volunteers, the delegates used RIMMF (RDA in Many Metadata Formats) to create RDA/FRBR entity records from imported MARC 21 records or as born-RDA, and link them using RDA designators. RIMMF is an editor for data that conforms to RDA Toolkit and the RDA Registry. |
